Our Journey of Impact
From humble beginnings to transformative impact across rural Malawi
A Personal Journey to Purpose
Founded in 2016 by Frank Banda, a former World Vision Malawi International sponsored child, Smile Mums Foundation began as a grassroots initiative under the name Save Mothers, Save Babies Initiative. Driven by a deep commitment to maternal and child health, the organization focused on reducing childbirth complications and promoting early antenatal care in underserved communities.
From Initiative to Organization
In 2017, Smile Mums Foundation gained official registration, marking a significant step in its mission to improve the well-being of mothers and children across rural Malawi. Today, it continues to empower families through community-based healthcare, education, and advocacy.
Our Commitment to Mothers & Children
The foundation is committed to improving the health and welfare of women throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period. It aims to guarantee that every rural woman and child has access to respectful, high-quality healthcare services through both facility-based and community-based interventions—regardless of their location, income, or background. Smile Mums Foundation fulfills its mission through cost-effective programs developed in collaboration with the Government of Malawi and the Ministry of Health.
