Welcome to Smile Mums Foundation's History:
Smile Mums Foundation

History

In 2015, our founder, Frank Jengeless Banda, worked as a Fundraising and Communication Officer for a charity organization that supports orphan babies. He visited a hospital to write a story about an orphan baby who lost her mother after birth. The grandmother mentioned that the baby would not survive due to a local misconception called "Mtengano". This inspired our founder to start a health project called "Save Mothers, Save Children Health Campaign". The campaign eliminated three delays that often cause complications during childbirth and promoted early antenatal care. In 2018, our founder registered the organization called "Smile Mums Foundation" to improve the lives of mothers and children in rural Malawi through cost-effective program responses. All program interventions are developed with key input from the communities served and executed in partnership with the Government of Malawi, the Ministry of Health, and local and international NGOs.
